A Share capital refers to funds gotten by a company by issuing ownership interest in that company either through preferred or common shares, the total number of share capital in a public company (Plc) in Nigeria is determined by the corporate affairs commission, the Nigerian Senate just passed the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) Repeal and Re-Enactment Bill which increases the minimum share capital of a public company (Plc) to NGN2,000,000.00 (two million naira) the amount of share capital a company has can change overtime because each time a company sells new shares to the public in exchange for cash, the amount of the share capital will increase.
The price per share of a public company (Plc) would be based on various factors which includes but not limited to:
1). The debt and interest payment of the company,
2). Total value of all the assets of the company both tangible and intangible,
3). The current and also the forecast profitability of the company
However the market price of a stock is a reflection of what the market thinks the company is worth.
